The ancient Hawaiian Hoʻoponopono is a practice of compassion, forgiveness, and gratitude for healing. The literal translation of Ho’oponopono is “to put in order, to make right, to correct, revise, amend, adjust, arrange, rectify.”

Ho’oponopono can help you take responsibility for what is going on in your life. It doesn’t mean that you started an argument or asked for a situation; it simply means you are responsible for your part in it - the way you responded, your thoughts, and your subconscious thoughts about it.

Your subconscious mind is like a caring guardian, holding onto all your experiences and learnings. However, this well-intentioned effort often limits you and encourages familiar responses. It can keep you from your full potential because you remain stuck with the same reactions, repeating similar experiences with people and events in your life.

It all starts by simply saying, “I am sorry. Please forgive me.”

Forgiving yourself for what you did or how you reacted will also help you let go of the sadness, anger, and resentment and help you to forgive others.

By saying “I love you" and "thank you," you are reminding yourself you are loved and lovable, and you deserve peace and happiness, and reminding yourself to be grateful for both the challenges and blessings in your life.

Think of your conscious mind as a farmer sowing seeds and your subconscious mind as fertile soil. It will grow flowers or weeds depending on what you plant.

The Ho’oponopono prayer can help you clear the slate by taking responsibility, forgiving yourself and others, feeling gratitude and love, and letting go of the old programming.
